Kitten Tips

  • Kittens are wonderful fluffy balls of exuberant energy. Kittens grow up quickly into cats so take lots of pictures and enjoy this stage in your cat’s life.
  • Make sure you don’t step on your kitten and look before you shut that door.
  • Give your kitten fresh water and kitten food daily and clean the litter box every other day.
  • It is best to keep your kitten inside to keep it safe from fights, automobiles, dogs and coyotes.
  • Your kitten should have a physical exam, worming and vaccines at ages 8, 12 and 16 weeks of age.
  • Your kitten should be spayed or neutered at 6 months of age. (Some have already been neutered at an earlier age).
  • Your kitten, if it must grow up to be an outdoor cat, needs protection against heartworm, fleas and ticks.
  • Remember that when you adopt a kitten you are committing time and care to that kitten for the rest of its life, which could be as long as 20 years. The rewards for your commitment will be plentiful.
